Serious Sam 2 Demo Quake 3 v1. They will form the basis of reference.

All benchmarks were conducted at xx32 ABIT BD7II (Intel i845E-ICH4) with vertical sync' disabled. Benchmarks were run 3 times consecutively, an average score was taken. All three systems were configured for maximum performance. The difference isn't great, but could affect results if they are initially close. Therefore, I've decided to normalise the results to MHz, as 2 of the motherboards on test natively run at that speed when set to MHz. I've chosen to go with the maximum bandwidth possible. Although newer graphics card drivers are available, I've chosen to go with the I've also disabled Bluetooth on the E Max2 for benchmark purposes as ABIT BD7II (Intel i845E-ICH4) adversely effects performance.

Seeing as the IT7 doesn't have it, the E should not be unfairly penalised. Anyway, onto the benchmarks.

Benchmarks I We'll start of with Sisoft Sandra's memory benchmark, one that highlights streaming data performance. This is solely to show how they handle both type of Northwoods, even though there is no 2. We'll move on to our first practical benchmark, Pifast. Put simply, it ABIT BD7II (Intel i845E-ICH4) the constant Pi to x number of places. It requires an efficient memory controller for decent performance. Next we'll turn our attention to MP3 encoding.

LAME encoding is an activity that is almost entirely CPU-bound, competing memory subsystems usually show little variance in results, this is the case here. Since our benchmarks measure to the nearest second, the results are very similar.

Naturally, at Mhz, the encoding time comes down significantly when compared to MHz. The average frame rate is taken after 20, frames have been encoded. I'm not overly concerned with the performance delta, though.

How does it fare in PCMark ? Just as one would expect.

We'll first benchmark MadOnion's 3DMark at its default resolution of xx I still feel that this benchmark is relevant today as many games still run under DX7 or earlier versions of DirectX. Here we see some position swapping from ABIT BD7II (Intel i845E-ICH4) protagonists, but not to any great degree. You would never be able to the difference visually. Let's now have a look at the bandwidth-hungry Valley of ABIT BD7II (Intel i845E-ICH4) Jaguar benchmark contained within the publicly available edition of Croteam's excellent first person shooter, Serious Sam 2. Settings are xx32 Normal preferences. This demo is purely dictated by bandwidth.

Massive 10 Motherboard iE/G Roundup -

The increased geometry that ensues from a large, open 3D space, coupled with a Geforce4 Ti graphics card, ensures that the CPU and memory subsystems are kept extremely busy, bandwidth is king in this instance. Benchmarks IV We've introduced Comanche 4 ABIT BD7II (Intel i845E-ICH4) our gamut of benchmarks recently. Deficiencies in either the chipset or memory throughput can be quickly diagnosed with such a benchmark. Benchmarked at xx32, a resolution that is still heavily subsystem limited. The relatively poor performance of the test 'board continues at FSB. After FSB, the performance falls off somewhat. We can't let it go without subjecting it to a bit of Quake 3 action.

I'll only conduct Fastest to give you an idea of how bandwidth translates into performance at both and FSB respectively. Pretty much what I expected.

Let's conclude. Performance conclusion I've previously mentioned that motherboards based on one chipset, whichever one it may be, and if from a respected motherboard manufacturer, usually tend to extremely similar in performance. This is to be expected as platforms ABIT BD7II (Intel i845E-ICH4) relatively mature and engineers know exactly how to tweak their respective BIOS's for performance. Performance is nothing without control and the MSI E is a paradigm of stability.

The performance at FSB, however, is slightly under whelming. It trailed the IT7 by a couple of percent in our benchmarks, nothing to write home about but consistent nonetheless. Considering that they were both running at the same memory speed, the performance delta can only be attributed to MSI playing it ABIT BD7II (Intel i845E-ICH4) safe.
